Two sort of view we may discern from modern Bengali intelligentsia about the term culture. Tagore thought culture as the most refined and aesthetic type of behavioral pattern of human collective. It will be well to remember Nietzsche here who went further by declaring that only as an aesthetic phenomenon life and existence are justified. What this kind of school of thought offers are obviously limiting views of culture. Other side which is much more acceptable globally is the view that asserts culture as the gross and sum total behavior of a human collective. Culture is not something static, archaic or a previously determined any futuristic dream of human collective. It is very much in the run, ever renewing ever moving. It’s not only a matter of spontaneity but creativity and construction also.
